Malaysian SMEs continue to grow from strength to strength, representing more than 99% of the nation’s business establishments, contributing 32% of the gross domestic product (GDP) and accounting for 56% of total employment and 19% of total exports.Given that the sector is one of the engines of growth for the country’s economy, the Government is steadfast on its commitment to develop a thriving and efficient SME sector and to help them realize their full potential. It is heartening to note that SMEs in the manufacturing sector recorded a 5.3% productivity growth in 2007.
