NORTHPORT wins Asia's Best Container Terminal Award

Northport, at Port Klang clinched The Best Container Terminal Award (Asia) at the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards 2009 (AFSCA) held in Hong Kong recently. orthport, a multi-purpose port operated by Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, was selected for the Award from a list which included other top container terminals in Asia.

The selection for the AFSCA award was based on list of selected criteria, which included crane productivity, timely and adequate investment in new terminal infrastructure to meet future demand, effective use of IT systems and efficient turn-around of trucks delivering and picking up containers. he AFSCA awards are designed to honour the respective winning organizations for demonstrating leadership as well as consistency in service quality, innovation, customer relationship management and reliability. It is long established as the industry's top accolade for excellence.


Northport, which handled a total of 3 million TEUs in 2008 offers the widest shipping connectivity among ports in Malaysia with more than 123 container shipping lines linking the port with more than 300 ports worldwide.
The Managing Director/CEO of Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, Dato’ Basheer Hassan Abdul Kader, after receiving the award said Northport is committed to maintaining high standards in performance and productivity because leading shipping lines which call at Northport require demonstration of standards comparable with other leading major global ports to which they are linked.
With a world-class infrastructure of container and conventional terminals, Northport offers a complete range of cargo handling facilities as well as logistics services. These facilities are further supported with Northport’s technological advancement of real-time cargo tracking.

Last year, 81 shipping lines as well as 44 conventional and 502 container vessels made approximately 8,000 ship calls at Northport, linking services to 250 ports in over 123 countries worldwide.

The 23rd anniversary of the AFSCAs - organized by market leading transport and logistics newspaper Cargonews Asia was held at Intercontinental Hong Kong recently. Several hundred transport, logistics and supply chain executives from around the region gathered to celebrate the event. An online poll organized by Cargonews Asia determined the winners for the night. Readers cast their votes through the Cargonews Asia website.
