Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions (MICE) for SMIs/SMEs

E-mail Print PDF

Thinking of organizing a corporate event or exhibition in Malaysia to showcase your company’s products? You’ll be spoilt for choice on the venue as Malaysia is a preferred destination for meetings, incentives, conventions & exhibitions (MICE), with its excellent infrastructure and facilities that are catered to meet the needs of corporate functions and other events. The country’s ample variety of sightseeing opportunities, cuisine, entertainment, along with a wide range of technical equipment and back-up services have made it one of the convention hotspots in the region.

Malaysia is also home to world-class convention facilities located within the five-star hotels and near luxury shopping districts. With a mix of large convention halls that can hold hundreds to small and medium-sized meeting rooms for smaller scale gatherings, the hotels in the country provide a perfect venue for many conventions. The five-star hotels also serve to provide luxurious accommodation for delegates, while the shopping districts and theme parks lend an added appeal for participants to unwind during pre and post conference periods. Beyond the hotels, Malaysia offers numerous purpose-built convention centres that can accommodate up to thousands of participants or exhibitors.

Malaysian SMEs are fortunate to be located in a convention hotspot. Participation in international as well as domestic meetings, conventions and exhibitions is a cost-effective and useful way to disseminate information on the SMI’s products to foreign buyers as well as to make local contacts. Because many major exhibitions are held here in Malaysia, SMEs do not need to incur high travelling costs to participate in them.

International and domestic exhibitions can serve as a good starting point for companies wanting to promote their products and services to the international market, as many foreign buyers come down to attend the events. At conferences and exhibitions, SMIs and SMEs can showcase their products or provide catalogues. Attending such conferences as a trade visitor is also useful as a way to identify possible trade opportunities, and to make contact with other participants.

To ensure a smooth and successful event, Tourism Malaysia provides assistance to conference organisers and planners in the following areas:
  • Event promotion
  • Advice on suitable venues and hotels
  • Co-ordination of site inspection visits
  • Co-ordination of meetings with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and related Government agencies
  • Social programmes and pre/post-tour programmes for delegates and accompanying persons
  • Information on suppliers such as professional conference organisers, conference-handling agents, exhibition contractors, audio-visual companies, gifts and convention material suppliers
  • Complimentary convention templates for announcements and other purposes
  • Promotional materials about Malaysia for use such as brochures, DVDs and gift items
