Y.B. Tan Sri Dato’ Muhyiddin Yassin, MITI minister received a Kyrgyz delegation led by H.E. Akylbek Japarov, senior officials from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Vice President of the Association of the Light Industry to exchange views to improve existing bilateral trade and investment relations. An area of interest to the Kyrgyz Republic is Malaysia’s experience in halal food standards and production technology. The Ministers agreed that both Malaysia and the Kyrgyz Republic should leverage on each other’s geographical advantage - the proximityof Kyrgyz Republic to the markets in Central Asia and West China and Malaysia’s strategic location in ASEAN and proximity to the Asia Pacific markets. The business communities of both countries should then assume a more aggressive role in promoting two-way trade and investment.
During the business roundtable discussions with the Malaysian private sector participants arranged by MATRADE and MIDA, the Kyrgyz delegation exchanged information on business and investment opportunities in the Kyrgyz Republic.
These included:
• discussion on various types of infrastructure and hydro power projects;
• opportunities in textiles and garment production;
• incentives and facilities offered by the Free Zone in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyz Republic and key Kyrgyz contact points for Malaysian companies interested in doing business or investing in the Kyrgyz Republic; and
• capacity building projects.
