Since its inception, the SMI Association of Malaysia has been active in organising relevant conferences, seminars and other projects to disseminate information to its members and SMI operators in the country. Some of the more important events include:

In addition, SMI Association of Malaysia has participated in numerous dialogues and submitted several memorandums to various Ministries and Government departments such as the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Bank Negara, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy, Communication and Multimedia, and others. The Association has also released several statements to the press on relevant issues pertaining to SMIs, and it is a founder member of the National SMI Consultative Centre.
The SMI Association participates extensively in trade exhibitions and overseas trade visits, and actively promotes and export culture. It also publishes the SMI Business Directory and has its own website at www.smisme.com. Its present membership consists of about 700 organisations and companies.

To transform SMEs into an economic powerhouse of the country by 2020.
MISSION
To instil and eventually ingrain deeply the concept of “learning organisation” into SMEs and encourage them to be export-oriented.
Objectives of SMI Association of Malaysia
1. To advocate the interests and needs of the small and medium scale industries in Malaysia.
2. To help promote and develop SMEs in Malaysia.
3. To organise SMEs into a more cohesive group with a greater voice.
4. To improve the efficiency, effectiveness, productivity and performance of SMEs through a series of
well-planned resources, development programmes and road shows.
