Speech by Mr Stanley Tan, Executive Chairman of Global Yellow Pages Media

Kuala Lumpur, 9th Oct 2009

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.

I am privileged to be here today to be part of the SMIAM Members’ Business Networking Day. As co-organiser of the event, we aim to contribute towards developing an environment where old and new members can have greater interaction which we believe will lead to creating business opportunities among you.

Global Yellow Pages Media continues to deepen our relationships with small and medium sized businesses. For over forty years, SMBs has been the core of our business. We invest continuously to build on this relationship and add value to you our partners. We expect SMBs to continue being the core of our business for the next 40 years and beyond. It is in our DNA.

Just last week, in Singapore, we have announced a strategic partnership with M1(Singapore’s 3rd largest Telco) to offer a new service to customers whereby business owners or service providers who actively use their mobile as a key contact can advertise their services or list their mobile numbers at an attractive cost on our internet portal. This allows the ability for those who use this service to reach a huge audience through using one single platform with multiple contact points, thereby generating more and better business leads and opportunities. All at a cost of less than One Ringgit ( RM1 ) a day. We will look at rolling out such initiatives to support SMBs here and across the region.

SMBs are the economic backbone of the nation, hiring over half of the workforce. It is often that members of your group survive despite facing challenges of inadequate resources. Your entrepreneurial spirits lift you beyond this disadvantage and help you succeed. Congratulations!

While we believe you will continue to strive and succeed, relying on your instinct and inner strengths, GYPM group hopes to contribute through providing you a marketing platform that is inexpensive to level the business playing field to compete equally with larger players. We aim to be your partner to achieve this in our area of search engines and beyond.

In Malaysia, our partnership with SMI Association of Malaysia started 8 years ago with the publication of the annual SMI Business Directory through our subsidiary Tourism Publications Corporation Sdn Bhd, as an invaluable source of reference on business information for SMBs as well as a marketing platform to promote and advertise their products and services.

Thank you for this opportunity and enjoy the evening.
