MYNIC Berhad, incorporated on 24 May 2006 as an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, functions as the registry and registrar for the ‘.my’ domain.. The Malaysian Network Information Centre (MYNIC) was previously a division of MIMOS Berhad.
Aims
MYNIC is Malaysia’s sole Internet Registry Service. Its primary role is to facilitate the creation of identities for users to establish their presence on the web. It encourages registration for the Malaysian Internet identity and alerts users on the need to protect their valuable corporate identity and online presence.
Functions
MYNIC is regulated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. Its primary function is the administration of the name space for the .my top level domain (TLD) which involves not only the registration of domain names but also the maintenance and operation of a domain name registry (a central database for .my domain names).The eight domain name categories administered by MYNIC are .com.my; .net.my; .org.my; .edu.my, .gov.my; .mil.my; .name.my; and more recently also .my.
MYNIC does not function purely as an administrative body but is also involved actively in R&D related activities. Its areas of focus include Redundancy, Security and Convergence.
To further create and develop public awareness as well as to update the public on latest developments MYNIC organises varied events. Among these are the .my Training Workshop Series, MYNIC’s Internet Technology Innovation Seminar, Southern Corridor Roadshow and MYNIC Seminar on Internet & DNS Security.
In line with its functionality MYNIC has international affiliations with ICANN and the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD).
